Love Yourself First and Know Your Worth – The Importance of Self Esteem

Love yourself first and know your worth.  Simple words. Simple concept. And yet so hard to follow sometimes.

It is so easy to get into the habit of negative self talk, to mockingly put yourself down. How often does that voice in your head put yourself down, or focus on the bad traits that we want to change about ourselves? Way too often usually.

If you can’t see your own value, and you are invaluable, then how are others going to see it? If you can’t love yourself, then how are others, going to love you? If you can’t respect yourself, then how are others going to respect you?

Think of the ones that you love, respect and value in your life. Are they perfect? Of course not. And you don’t have to be perfect either.

Strive to spend at least part of your day focusing on all that is amazing about yourself. Write out a list of the things that you like about yourself. It can be anything; your ability to tell time, your curly hair, your long legs, your amazing sense of humor, your promptness, the way you can find products on sale, your sense of style, your kindness, how much you love your cat. Anything. And then keep adding to the list.

None of this is about ego, or conceit. Its about recognizing your inherent self worth. The more you can see your own value, the more you have to bring to the table. That means you can be a better life partner, a better mother, a better employee, a better business owner, a better friend and a better person.

Every time your evil little monkey mind starts to talk about the negatives you find in yourself, slap a gag on him and spend a few moments going over your list. Eventually that monkey will get quieter and you will start to believe what is already true about yourself. And yes you can work on the things that you don’t like about yourself while still having a healthy self-esteem. There is nothing wrong with self improvement. And there is nothing wrong with loving yourself just as you are!

So. Love yourself and know your worth. And if you would like a printable to help you remind yourself to do this, then take advantage of the one that we have for free for the next week.
